Principal's Message

It is an honor to serve you as Principal of DeKalb Early College Academy.  As this county’s only early college model high school, I am dedicated to building a school where the scholars’ goals stretch beyond graduation and mere college admissions to post-secondary success and a thriving career path.  According to Dr. David Conley in College Knowledge [p.38], “the single most important factor in determining college success is the academic challenge of the courses students take in high school.”  To this end, I pledge that my highest priority will be to create a supportive staff climate through professional learning and reflective growth opportunities that generates a high quality, academically intense level of teaching and learning.  As a result, our scholars will become more independent, life-long learners who can deftly advocate for their own development and operate from a strong social conscience.  As future citizens and community leaders, we owe it to our students to prepare them for these roles as well as we possibly can.

To continually push DECA to be one of preeminent early college model high schools in the nation requires strong, critically engaging relationships between the schoolhouse and our scholars’ families, as well as, community stakeholders.  I encourage everyone to get involved and share with me your ideas, desires, and goals for DeKalb Early College Academy.

This is an amazing school that has an incredible track record of student accomplishments and teacher successes to be proud of!  I will work tirelessly and enthusiastically to push us to even higher calibers of excellence.

Educationally yours,

Edward Conner
