MISSION: The mission of Reading Bowl is to support students in their preparation for in the Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl competition.
VISION: "To foster a love of reading in the children of Georgia, and to introduce them to books of literary excellence." (from the HRRB website)
Reading Bowl can support up to eight (8) scholars.
Reading Bowl practice will be held Fridays from 3:30 to 4:30. Students must leave campus at the end of practice.
Reading Bowl Code of Conduct:
A. Reading Bowl participants must obtain, read, study, and write questions for at least five assigned Reading Bowl Books.
B. Reading Bowl participants must attend every weekly practice meeting in order to be considered for competition -- advance notice and explanation for absence may mitigate this condition in emergency circumstances.
C. Reading Bowl participants should plan to be available on Saturday, January 26th for competition at Arabia Mountain HS. There will be a maximum of four Saturday competitions, should we advance through the ranks.
Senior cords available for students who meet the following requirements:
- Must be an active member for two years
- Must miss fewer than two meetings per school year
- Must abide by the Code of Conduct
- Must pay $35 dues by the time entry opens for the HRRB each year (October 12th 2018) to cover DECA's entry fee, meeting snacks, senior cords, and DECA Reading Bowl t-shirt.
